This HOWTO is not intended to prevent you from purchasing replacement lenses from Blinder-Guy. If you have a lens that is severely damaged by a large rock i.e. cracked or has a deep gouge, then of course you should replace it. This guide is merely to show you how to restore a mildly worn or weather lens.
I've had my Blinder system install for approx 10 months. I do a TON of driving and have put my Lenses through hell, so I would say that restoring the lenses every 12 months should be just fine for the average user/driver. You could probably do it every 6 months if you are OCD. :P
I purchased a new Blinder transponder head from Blinder-Guy and noticed how clean, shiny and transparent to IR (InfraRed) it was (using my Sony Handycam in IR mode). Since I was in the process of replacing 1 head that had 1 bad LED, I decided to use that lens as a test bed before restoring the lens on my other transponder head. After confirming that it worked (very well I might add) I proceeded to restore the lens on my good head. I documented the process as best I could with pics and video shot in normal mode and IR mode. The YouTube vid is annotated and has pauses, so be sure to read the Notes as the video progresses so you understand what you're seeing.
I started out by going to AutoZone and picking up the RainX Headlight Restoration Kit for $17. All you have to do is follow the instruction step by step and take your time. Each Lens I restored took approx 10-15 minutes from start to finish. Once you are done you can take a tooth brush and some cold running water to clean off the buffing pads and reuse the kit several times.

Here are the before pictures:

Here are the after pictures. Pardon the specks of dust on the lens. It's was a hot, dusty, dry day today. So the dust kept sticking to the lens.:

This video is shot in normal & IR mode to illustrate the difference made by this simple restoration. I hope you enjoy.
