Default STi Driver vs. STi-R

Hi everyone!

After I am done paying off my Blinder M47, I am thinking of upgrading my RD from my windshield mount STi Driver to an STi-R (if Blinder-Guy still has them in stock ). For those using it right now, what can I expect performance-wise over my windshield mount? Any suggestions on placement as to maximize both radar and LIDAR reception??? Thanks!!!

Well, i'm a guy who owns both a D and R. If the driver is mounted properly, you wont see a major difference with factory settings. but what makes the STI R so good(besides not having to have anything on your windshield) is the settings. you can change the filtering of the different frequencies of Ka band. (KaSW), you can also turn RDR off, which is like Ka Guard on the V1, it filters Ka band from leaky RDs.

I'm in VA so i don't encounter any other radar detectors, so i can get away with RDR off. if you're on a highway with a lot of cobras, the falses might drive you nuts.

the controls and display of the sti r are AWESOME. i LOVE the little control panel.

placement wise, i personally recommend low as possible so that it can see under the cars in front of you. but whatever is convenient to you.

to sum it up, you'll love the STI R, and probably end up selling your STI Driver, i did. V1 + STI R ftw.

I bought my STI R from BG, so expect nothing but the best from him!

Edit: /facepalm i just realized you're victor from RDnet.. you've already read my opinion.. sigh

My Sti-R beats my ix and x50 by anywhere from 4-10 seconds and sometimes more! Not huge but may be enough to keep you from getting a ticket and when you really take time to count it out it is significant!

Biggest difference I have seen is its ability to see over hills and around curves. It is far and away the best RD I have ever owned. Once I get a V1 I will get rid of the ix and keep the x50 for backup.

I mounted very low and have had no issues with reception. Love the display and controller but not a fan of the volume button as it is a two in one function. Would prefer two buttons.

Segmentation is great and I have picked up I/O from a huge difference, particularly when RDR is off.

Default My STi-R is secured!

Thank you BG for securing an STi-R for me. I am looking forward to adding it to the Stealthmobile's already formidable arsenal (soon to arrive Blinder M47, Veil G4 and Veiled LaserShields)!!! Of course, the STi Driver will have to be sold...$$$.

That detector has been the BEST I have ever owned, next to my former 8500 X50 Blue (which was sold to secure the STi Driver).
